Biographical information:

Born ca. 1842, probably in Svir.

There are some difficulties in connecting the older official records (1858, 1890) with the more modern accounts associated with the descendant Vladimir (Vulf) Konovalov, as the modern accounts do not give the earliest names; in fact their source appears to be the 1890 account of Uleinikov which gives only summary information.

The Konovalov family is noted for being model farmers. All the sons are married. The eldest son has three sons, all working. The second has three young daughters. The third, who served in the military, has one young son. The old man and his two sons live together; one son and the widow of the deceased son with her children (three sons and five daughters) live in separate houses.

1890 record:
Four sons of Aryeh (Ari-Leib) are referred to by Uleinikov, wriing in 1890.

  1. Eldest: three sons
  2. Second: three young daughters
  3. Third: Served in military, one young son
  4. Fourth: deceased
  5. Sons 1&2 living with Ari-Leib
Son 3 and widow of son 4, with 3 sons and 5 daughters, each live separatey

We have the names of two sons. We have not identified the family of the deceased son. The question then would be whether Efroim, the eldest known by name, was the eldest referred to. He would not be the second (three young daughters) and not being the youngest living would not be the third.
