Rabbi Mara S. Nathan
was ordained by
the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion
in New York. She received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in history as
well as certificates in Jewish studies and women's studies from
Northwestern University.
As a child and teenager Rabbi Nathan attended the UAHC Eisner Camp, where she later went on to serve in the administration as a unit head and director of the Machon, counselor in training Program. In addition to being an active member of NFTY Long Island, she also studied flute at the Juilliard Conservatory Pre-college Program.
After college, Rabbi Nathan spent time in Israel, participating in the WUJS Institute, an international graduate studies program, and working for the Israel Religious Action Center. In addition to serving as the rabbinic intern here at Larchmont Temple for three years, Rabbi Nathan has served as a chaplain at the New York Presbyterian Hospital and spent a summer working with incoming rabbinical and cantorial studies at Hebrew Union Colleges Israel Campus.
She is a recipient of the Steinhardt Fellowship, a scholarship awarded to rabbinical students to further informal education with teens and college age students. In 2014, she became Senior Rabbi at Temple Beth El in San Antonio, TX.
