Surviving portions of FBI file for George Cherlin as of 2023 concerning political activity in the Communist Party and New Progressive Party, with furthr information regarding Mary Cherlin's activities. The FBI hoped to turn him into an informant but judged both were unsuitable. Repetitive but very interesing in detail.
What he did not discuss with the FBI was his belief of the importance of civil rights issues, which was most likely his main motivation poltically.
Later he became involved with Dianetics, Zen Buddhism, various schools of psychotherapy, and, eventually Christian Science.
The FBI was marginally aware of Mary Cherlin's interest in Dianetics.

The pdf file linked has been created to roughly reproduce the scanned pages furnished. It is more compact than the scan, is searchable, and has an added index. THe image shown is the original scan of page 1 (reduced in size).

Much of this file was later reproduced in a file for Gary Cherlin when he applied to join the Peace Corps in 1966, but he was judged to be reliable as he had been a Boy Scout. (The latter file was also furnished in response to the FOIA request for George Cherlin.)
